Role at FSG
At FSG, Arani has contributed her unique blend of technical and policy understanding to a number of strategic planning engagements in the nonprofit and foundation sectors, most recently for a large US-based nonprofit interested in addressing climate change, driving clean energy adoption and supporting a more sustainable U.S. agricultural system. She has also supported the field of collective resources by curating resources from the field and developing tools for the Collective Impact Forum, and has been involved in the scoping and implementation of collective impact initiatives focused on such diverse issues as climate change, immigrant integration, and early childhood education.
As a Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, Arani managed research projects focused on understanding the operational limitations of water access on energy and food production in arid regions, particularly the Middle East. In addition to her public policy training from HKS, Arani brings technical environmental expertise from her time at GeoSyntec Consultants and her Ph.D. fieldwork in Kazakhstan, focused on the remediation of mercury-contaminated groundwater. Her understanding of global development was strengthened and nuanced through many years of involvement with Engineers Without Borders; she has also worked on mental and physical health challenges at the community level in Canada and participated in environmental conservation efforts in the New Zealand temperate rainforest.
Outside of work, Arani is passionate about the environment, exercise, good food, and spending time in the great outdoors. Consequently, she spends much of her free time hiking in national and state parks around the world, often with a yoga mat in her suitcase, and working up an appetite to enjoy the local cuisine.
