WorkLab Innovations, and the Sustainable Workforce Model, was created by 4 organizations—WorkLife Partnership (Denver, CO); Working Bridges (Burlington, VT); The SOURCE (Grand Rapids, MI); and Connect for Success (Seattle, WA)—to partner with employers to provide employees across the U.S. with financial education, transportation support, childcare, and other services that increase employee retention and engagement. This group of innovative providers came together with FSG in 2016 to scale their approach with support from The Rockefeller Foundation. FSG designed and led a process for WorkLab Innovations members to co-create and implement a network to replicate their approach in new communities.

FSG:
- Helped WorkLab Innovations members understand their common approach through site visits, analysis of each organization’s financial and operational models, and interviews with employer partners and employees.
- Developed a set of best practices and key success factors to help other communities replicate this approach.
- Provided research, facilitation, and an implementation plan for the creation of a national network.
Results:
In 2017, the national WorkLab Innovations network formally launched and selected an initial cohort of sites to receive consulting and technical assistance to partner with employers to support employees. The WorkLab Innovations network is scaling innovative approaches across the U.S. as employers help their employees thrive in partnership with 8 sites across the country, and 5 more scheduled in 2018.
